MINEHEAD & West Somerset Hockey Club celebrated their merger with a hugely successful Charity Summer League during August.
Weekly attendances of over forty players from Minehead and many other clubs made for a closely-fought competition. Mixed 25-minute matches were played in a round-robin format each week with a final played on the last Tuesday of August.
All players made voluntary charity contributions instead of match fees each week, with each of the six teams nominating a charity to benefit should they win the competition.
With such good numbers it was no surprise that over £1,300 was raised over five evenings.
West Somerset Food Larder benefitted from the winning team to the tune of £870, and runners up Exmoor Search and Rescue will pocket £430.
Hockey league action starts at the end of September for the men’s and ladies’ teams, with training at 7pm on Tuesday evenings for the ladies, and Wednesday evenings for the men, both at West Somerset College.
