THE ladies section of Minehead and West Somerset Golf Club have competed for the Dunster and Floyd Trophies.
With good weather prevailing the Dunster Trophy (lower handicappers) was won by Ros Chidgey with an impressive nett 66; well ahead of the field. Second was Deano Carlin with a nett 74 and third Hilary Eden with a nett 77.
The Floyd Trophy (higher handicappers) was won by Paula Parkin on a nett 74, Second was Ingrid Swinburn, also on nett 74. Third was Sue Garwood on nett 76.
Last week saw the last friendly match of the season at home against Oake Manor. The weather again was kind - sunshine and little wind. Minehead were victorious, winning 3½ - 1/2.
Thursday was taken up with the Ladies Open Bowmaker Competition. This is open to any player from any club with a handicap. The weather was again good, dry and not much wind, though the wind did change direction during the competition to keep the competitors on their toes. Thirteen teams of three competed. The format was the best two Stableford scores of the three to count on each hole.
First were Cath Binding (31), Sue Garwood (24) and Annette O’Hare (19), all from Minehead, with an excellent score of 89 points. Highlights included Cath posting four pars on the card; Sue a birdie on the 17th. Second were Ruth Ball (20) (Minehead), Deano Carlin (9) (Minehead) and Yvonne Mary Wilcox (15) (Rushden) with 84 points. Third were Ruth Maclennan(22), Alison Greenslade(20) and Tina Morgan (17) with 83 points, from Enmore. Nearest the pin on the 4th and 14th were Tricia Grinter and Alison Greenslade respectively.
With the external competition season for the ladies drawing to a close, there is just one remaining away Wessex match against Yeovil later on in the month.
