THE Seniors Section at Minehead and West Somerset Golf Club experienced very different weather conditions for each of their three competitions during the past week.
They started their week with a Stableford competition whcih was played in a biting wind which saw 15 participants brave the elements and make their way to the first tee,
The weather conditions were reflected in the majority of the scores for those taking part except, that is, for Mark Ruttley who took the course by the scruff of the neck to record a clear victory with a score of 36 points.
The winner was six points ahead of Doug Hayhoe who returned to the clubhouse with 30 point to claim second places while Ash Stockley scored 29 to take third place.
Wednesday dawned a very wet day but despite the prospect of playing in the rain the Seniors took part in a 4BBB competition, which was keenly contested and at the end of which there were some excellent scores recorded.
In first place with 43 points were Tony Connolly and Peter Chapple, one ahead of Roger Read and Dave Walmsley who claimed second place with 42.
Third place, a further one shot adrift, was the pairing of Mark Watson and Bob Arthington with 41 points.
Thunder showers and strong winds greeted the Seniors on Friday when they set out to play a 231 Waltz competition.
Conditions favoured the lower handicap players so it was no surprise that the clear winners with 70 points, five ahead of their nearest rivals, was the team comprising of Martin Hole, Mark Ruttley and Andy Giles.
In second place on countback with 65 points were Dave Oatridge, Mark Swallow and Malcolm Bruce, ahead of Willie Brown, Roger Green and Mark Watson.
The weather may have been challenging but the golf was enjoyed by all of the Minehead Seniors.
