PORLOCK Ladies went down 4-0 at home to Ilminster Town Ladies Reserves in what proved to be a tough and challenging match in Division Two of the Somerset Women’s Football League.

With only 11 players available from the start, Porlock knew they were in for a battle but approached the game with determination, teamwork, and a positive attitude.

The game kicked off with Ilminster immediately pressing hard down the left wing, stretching the play and using their pace to their advantage. After 35 minutes, Ilminster’s number 14 broke through the defence and slotted in the opening goal. Just moments later, a quick counter-attack and a defensive deflection led to a second goal, slipping into the bottom corner, making it 2-0 to the South Somerset side. Despite her efforts, the Porlock keeper could not reach it.

Before half-time, Ilminster added a third, capitalising on a lapse in concentration. Keeper Hannah pulled off an unbelievable save from the top left corner to see out the half with Ilminster 3-0 ahead.

Porlock reshuffled at the break, switching to a back five to try and absorb the pressure. The tactical change brought better defensive stability, but Ilminster continued to keep going forward in search of more goals. After 25 minutes of intense attacks, they found their fourth goal, extending their lead.

Despite being 4-0 down, the West Somerset outfit showed true character. Their communication improved, and their resilience kept the score from getting worse. A standout moment came from great link-up play between Julie, Helen, and Christina, which nearly led to a Porlock goal.

In the final minutes, Porlock were reduced to 10 players due to a defender struggling with illness, but the team held on until the final whistle.

Porlock’s Player of the Match: Julie – For her relentless fight, energy, and leadership throughout the game.
