PORLOCK Ladies went down 5-2 at home to Portishead in the second division of the Somerset Women’s Football League.
Porlock kicked off with a strong 13-player squad, showing early confidence. Within just 7 minutes, Julie opened the scoring with a cracking strike from outside the box. However, Portishead responded quickly, pressing down the left wing and equalising with a swift counter-attack in the 11th minute.
Porlock knew this was going to be a good game. A few changes followed, with Sarah coming off at right-back and Amber stepping in to reshape the defence. The weather then began to play its part, coming in strong and testing both sides.
Portishead took advantage of the width, stretching play and eventually adding a second goal. Just before half-time, Portishead capitalised again — this time with a ball over the top — and went into the break with a commanding 3-1 lead.
Porlock came out for the second half with renewed energy, with Sarah pushing up to striker, Chloe, Amiee and Kayleigh all created chances on the wings. Georgia and Helen showed composure and link up play through the middle and Julie battled to win every ball back.
The home team created several chances and looked dangerous going forward, and their efforts paid off when Chloe grabbed a cracking goal after a deflection from the Portishead keeper. Despite this breakthrough, some poor vision and decision-making in the final third meant no further goals were added for Porlock despite the pressure and dominance through out the second half. Portishead maintained their threat, and two more balls over the top saw them extend their lead.
Despite the scoreline, Porlock should be incredibly proud of their performance. Every player gave their all, showing commitment, resilience, and strong team spirit. Hannah was outstanding in goal, pulling off a number of crucial saves that kept the team in the game.
