MINEHEAD fought out a 3-3 home draw against high-flyers Bishops Lydeard in the Under 12 South section of the Somerset Girls Football League.
The game began with both sides showing real intent to put their stamp on the match from the kick off with a really high tempo start. Lydeard settled quickly and were starting to put the Minehead defence to the test but it was the hosts with a quick counter attack that broke the deadlock midway into the first half.
The girls from Lydeard didn’t let their heads drop and kept pushing forward and found an equaliser following some sustained pressure. With both sides working really hard in the evening sun it was Minehead again who took the lead from another breakaway and calm finish under pressure.
Lydeard had to dig deep to stay just one goal adrift as Minehead continued to attack with real intent. The away side managed to get the ball forward and forced a corner with a few minutes of the first half remaining. The corner found its way through to an unmarked player at the back post who expertly finished to make it 2-2 at the break.
The second half started with the same intensity as the first half was played withboth sides putting each other under relentless pressure. It was Minehead again that took the lead, this time from a well worked team move played from defence, through the midfield and on to the forwards to finish superbly.
Lydeard were now throwing everything they had at Minehead to find a third equaliser of the match which they eventually managed to do following some sustained pressure.
With both sides battling hard for the win there were no more goals despite the best efforts of everyone and the match finished 3-3.
Minehead finished their season securing a well earned fifth spot.
