HAVING lost 4-0 at Wrington Redhill in the first division of theUhlsport Somereset County League nine days before, Minehead bounced back to gain a comfortable 3-0 home victory in front of another three-figure crowd on Wednesday evening.
Without their influential midfield playmakers Matty Ronan and Will Singleton-Voss, Minehead fielded the Heath brothers Josh and Sam in their midfield, and were also able to call upon another former player in Zac Ryder who came on from the bench to add noticeable experience and fire power for the final quarter of the game.
It was the hosts who started the brightest and top scorer Toby Waghorn came close when his drive came back off the crossbar around the half-hour mark.
Minehead took the lead ten minutes before the break when Waghorn’s electric pace saw him latch on to a loose back pass and having beaten the advancing keeper to the ball, it was Ollie Prescott who was on hand to slot home.
Keeping the pressure on, Waghorn saw his goal-bound volley blocked but was soon on the scoresheet with his 19th goal in 25 starts to notch Minehead’s second.
Wrington had a good spell in the middle of the second half as they seemed to be getting back into the game, but a superb reactionary save from keeper Steven Arnold, making only his second appearance for the club, the two-goal advantage was kept intact.
The second half saw substitutes Riley Pope and Ryder replace Nathan Collins and Josh Heath, but staying on the front it was Waghorn who added to the scoreline when he beat the visiting keeper to what looked like a 50-50 ball. Attendance: 147
