AFTER setting out a clear three-year vision for Alcombe Rovers with the previous committee , Brian Hall is stepping down as player-manager and chairman of the West Somerset club.
The plan was ambitious but achievable, and together the club succeeded in delivering its biggest objective—earning promotion to the Premier Division of the Centregreat Taunton & District Saturday Football League during the past season. That achievement was built on the commitment and hard work of players, volunteers, sponsors and everyone connected with the club.
However, the departure of several key figures and a lack of player availability has left Brian’s position untenable. Despite every effort to rebuild the squad and move the club forward, it has become clear that continuing is no longer a realistic option.
“It is with great sadness that I step away from a club I have given everything to. I’m incredibly proud of what we achieved together, particularly securing promotion to the Premier Division. Unfortunately, circumstances beyond our control have made my position impossible, and a club that was well run and moving in the right direction has reached a point where it cannot continue in the way we had planned.
“I would like to thank every player, volunteer, sponsor and supporter who has been part of this journey. I sincerely hope Alcombe Rovers can find a way forward in the future.”
Brian will leave the club but help to find a suitable replacement. He leaves with the satisfaction of having delivered on the club’s long-term vision and with gratitude to everyone who played a part in that success.
*Alcombe were promoted to the Premier Division of the Saturday League last season after finishing third in the first division with 32 points, winning 11 and drawing two of their 18 matches.
Racehorse Rovers won the division with 38 points, while Nether Stowey were runners-up with 33 points.
