AFTER a week’s break, Alcombe Rovers restarted their campaign in lively fashion with a thrilling 5–3 home victory over North Curry in Division One of the Taunton Saturday Football League.
Alcombe made a flying start, taking the lead in the 9th minute when Toren Eldridge followed up smartly to slot home the opener. Just three minutes later, a driving run from Josh Bruford created space for Liam Thorne, who calmly finished to double the advantage.
The hosts were dominant in midfield, moving the ball with confidence, and North Curry struggled to cope with Alcombe’s attacking overloads. Their pressure paid off again when a defensive header from Charlie Disney released Nathan Collins, who finished clinically to make it 3–0 inside the opening 20 minutes.
However, Alcombe’s tempo dipped toward the latter stages of the half, and North Curry capitalised with two quick goals—including one from an Alcombe defensive error—bringing the score back to 3–2 at half-time.
In the second half, Alcombe regrouped and raised their performance. Crisp passing between the lines resulted in Sam Harley being played through, restoring a two-goal cushion at 4–2 with a composed finish.
Rovers maintained control of possession, with Beau Winters, Eldridge, and Disney delivering a solid defensive display. Yet Curry struck again on 55 minutes to narrow the score to 4–3 and keep the contest alive
Fresh energy from substitutes helped Alcombe reassert their dominance, and the decisive moment came when Cam Thompson produced a neat finish to make it 5–3.
North Curry continued to press until the final whistle, but Alcombe’s quality and composure proved the difference.
