WINSFORD are off the mark at last in the first division of the West Somerset Cricket League.

After 13 matches without a win this season, they came good against last season’s winners Ashbrittle, winning by four wickets. Despite a good start after going into bat first, the reigning champions were all out for 148 in 39 overs with Wilfred Embleton (37) and Callum White (40) being their main run-getters. Andrew Blackmore took 2-34, Dan Bowley 2-28, Jeremy Bingham 2-34 and Giles Hawkins 2-15.

Winsford openers Ivo McFarlan (36) and James How (44) put on 61 for the first wicket while Henry Dunn (27 not out) made sure Winsford got over the winning line for the first time this summer.

Meanwhile, there is no stopping Watchet in their quest for the title. They remain unbeaten and 24 points clear at the top of the table after they beat Over Stowey to record their 12th success of the season. Alastair Harrison (135) and Eben Harding (100) were the batting stars for the leaders who scored 270-5 in their 40 overs. James Swales took 3-25 and Oscar Hallett 2-66.

Kieran Barrow top scored with 92 in Stowey’s 204 all out while Simon Burland hit 40. Dom Bowden took 4-54, Harding 2-40 and Liam Woolgrove 2-35.

Kilve, in second place, kept in touch with the leaders - although they have played one more match than their rivals - but are running out of games. They won by 15 runs against Brompton Ralph after scoring 268-4 in their 40 overs with R Rock (52), Carl Clemenson (85) and Tom Wilcox (41) being their main scorers. R Chiplin took 2-45.

Chiplin top scored for Brompton with 92 in their 253-7, while Will Ruell made 45 and P Pool 38. Wilox took 3-44 and Jay Darrell 2-28.

Bagborough were four-wicket winners against Bridgetown who were all out for 183 with P Matravers top scoring with 48 while Blake Jones took 4-22. Tom Eve (72) and Craig Swinburne (65) steered Bagborough to victory - and move above Bridgetown in the table to fourth spot.

Sampford Arundel, lying second in Division Two, were impressive eight-wicket winners against Stogumber but trail the leaderes Crowcombe by 83 points. Stogumber scored 109 all out in just over 20 overs with Peter Horton (24), M Richings (17) and Jake Watson (22) being the only batters to hit double figures against the bowling of Oscar Milton (4-27), Charley Crossley (3-24) and Will Fewings (3-25).

Rob Chase was in good form for Sampford, scoring 64 not out with 14 fours while Vince Milton scored 29 not out. M Richings took 2-24.

Lydeard St Lawrence stay in third place after they beat Roadwater by four wickets. Roadwater were all out for 230 while Lydeard reached their target with just two overs to spare.

Stoke St Mary’s batters were in good form in their 34-run victory over Churchinford. Stoke scored 259-8 in their 40 overs with opener Ashton Norie (83) and George Johnston (48) putting on 119 for the first wicket while Callum Illman scored 52 and Ben Gray 53. Kristian Morgan took 2-46 and James Yeabsley 2-35.

Churchinford also got off to a reasonable start with Chris Roberts scoring 54 and fellow opener Andrew Layard 20, while Yeabsley knocked 80 but the batting fell away against the bowling of Ian Tier (4-49), Gray (3-31), Norie (2-39) and Joseph Harding (1-5).
