WATCHET hosted Division Two leaders Westlands on Saturday knowing they would have to be on top of their game to get anything from the match, but they finished losers by nine wickets.
Electing to bat first on a dry deck that might deteriorate, they got off to a steady start, reaching 41 in the 13th over before Matt Lovell was removed for a brisk 29 by opener Mitchell.
Mitchell proved hard to get away and bowled four maidens in a row in a spell of 1-17 from nine overs.
Sloppy mistakes from the middle order gifted wickets when Watchet knew nothing less than 200 would be defendable on such a quick outfield.
Only a steady 18 from Ryan Strong aided the score as wickets tumbled and runs became harder and harder to come by., and three wickets each for McCabe and Legg left Watchet all out in the 37th over for a very below par 113.
Westlands had to bat for eight overs before tea, which gave Watchet a chance to put some pressure on, but poor bowling against the imperious form of the top order soon left them staring defeat in the face.
With nine wickets remaining after tea, Gundry and Ewens dismissed everything the bowlers could throw at them and reached their target in 18.3 overs on a forgettable day for Watchet as they look to avoid relegation.
