MINEHEAD Seconds lost at home to Spaxton on Saturday in Division Three of the Somerset Cricket League.

After being asked to bat first Minehead got off to a great start with openers Charlie Payne (48) and Oli Ahern putting on 94 together before Ben Rich dismissed the latter for 41.

Payne was then out for 48 with the score on 102 and shortly afterwards Rich struck again to dismiss Sam Cobb. Rich picked up his third when he accounted for Braden Taylor which saw the hosts 120 for 4.

Gary Bennett then added 46 for the seventh with Renjeesh Krishnan who made 32, and put on 42 with Anan Rajan who made 18 before Minehead were all out for 230 in 38.5 overs. Bennett ended unbeaten on 59 which he scored off 60 balls and included seven 4s and two 6s.

Pick of the Spaxton bowlers was Rich with 3 for 46, while there were two wickets each for Adam Richards and Charlie Harris.

When Spaxton replied the Minehead opening bowler Rob Spiers removed Jamie Gunstone cheaply followed by John Bishop and Dan Andison, and Spaxton found themselves 53 for three, when Hill was joined by James Gunstone.

The fourth wicket pairing steadied the situation and took the total onto 141 when Gunstone was out for 34 which came off 31 balls with six 4s.

New batter Richards then joined Hill and added 84 for the fifth wicket before he was caught by Lewis Goodrum off Braden Taylor for 27.

Hill remained at the crease to see Spaxton to 235 for seven and victory by three wickets, by which time he was unbeaten on 135 which he scored off 92 balls with 19 fours and six 6s.

Pick of the Minehead bowlers was Spiers with three for 36 off eight overs while Braden Taylor ended with two for 64.
