ONLY one match was played in the third division of the West Somerset Cricket League over the weekend because of the bad weather.

Cutcombe missed out on a chance of closing the gap on leaders Hemyock after their game against Taunton outfit Bishops Hull 2nd XI was cancelled through rain with both teams sharing 12 points. The other fixture to be called off because of the poor conditions was at Stoodleigh where the home side were due to play Minehead 3rd XI.

In the match which was played, Carhampton gained only their third success of the season when they beat Cannington by 97 runs. Star of the show was Sam Price who scored 150, hitting 12 fours and 11 sixes when facing only 83 deliveries. Adam Magill scored 39 while Ian Cape made 24. Dave Hoveman snapped up 3-73 and Robert Coombs 2-46.

In reply Cannington made 211 all out in 35 overs with Christian Callum scoring 47 and Adam Caswell 44. Matthew Long finished with figures of 4-14 off seven overs while Nick Winzer took 2-67 and Samuel Taylor 2-36.

Despite not playing, Hemyock still have a 21-point lead at the top of the table, with Cutcombe in second place.

Meanwhile, Hemyock will be looking to get back into action when they play at home to Stoodleigh on Saturday, July 12. Stoodleigh are bottom of the table, having won only two of their nine matches. They are 20 points adrift of the next placed side Ashbrittle 2nd XI who have an away fixture against Cannington, who are in third spot.

Minehead 3rd XI, in fifth place, will be hoping for better weather when they play at home to Cutcombe, while Carhampton will be looking to improve on sixth place when they play away to Bishops Hull 2nd XI.
