BRIDGETOWN maintained their good form with a comprehensive victory against Over Stowey in the first division of the West Somerset League. Having won the toss and elected to bat, Bridgetown’s Dan Sizer was lucky to be reprieved first ball as stand-in keeper Liam Barrow dropped a catch off the unlucky Ben Washer. H
However, Washer got his reward shortly after as Ben Luxton mishit a pull shot to be caught at square leg; Bridgetown 11/1 in the third over. Charlie Gliddon joined Sizer in a 125 run partnership which punished any errant deliveries by the Stowey bowling. Gliddon was finally caught at long-on off D Langlois, with Bridgetown handily placed at 136/2 after 25 overs. Sizer received solid support from the Bridgetown middle order, and registered a superb 158 not out as the ball disappeared to all parts of the ground, and the final score of 279/5 was an imposing one. The pick of the Stowey bowlers was Kieran Barrow, who was unlucky not to be rewarded with a wicket.
The start of the Stowey innings mirrored Bridgetown’s as opener James Swales was dropped first ball by bowler Tom Gliddon who failed to cling onto the return catch. This miss did not hurt Bridgetown in the same way though, as Chris Wookey quickly made the first breakthrough, getting revenge on Hayden Langlois who had bowled him in Bridgetown’s innings, caught behind by stand-in keeper Henry Gliddon.
Swales and T Colman took the score to 33 before Colman skied a catch, Charlie Gliddon ending up on his back but crucially keeping hold of the ball. Simon Costello and Gliddon ruthlessly ran through Stowey’s middle order, reducing them from 33/1 to 74/8 in the 18th over. Henry Bond mopped up the tail and Over Stowey were all out for just 91, nine of the dismissals being catches.
