CANNINGTON beat Cutcombe by one wicket in a thrilling match in the third division of the West Somerset Cricket League.
It means Cannington now go above their rivals into second place, although both sides are still in with a chance of at least promotion.
Cutcombe were bowled out for 140 in 27 overs with James Gregory top scoring with 42 while Ned Binding hit 38. Star of Cannington’s bowling was Daryl Lush who reaped havoc, taking 8-49. Edward Coombes took 1-28. Cannington, who now have a 20-point lead over Cutcombe, managed to squeeze home, reaching their target with only seven balls to spare.
Hemyock have a 56-point lead over Cannington at the top of the table after they were awarded 35 points against Minehead 3rd XI who failed to fulfil their fixture. However, both Cannington and Cutcombe have two crucial games in hand on the leaders.
Carhampton gained a decisive victory over Bishops Hull, scoring 224 to win without losing a wicket. Opener Sam Price was 125 not out, scoring 16 fours and seven sixes, while fellow opener Paul Keal retired 70 not out.
Earlier, the Taunton side had scored 222-7 in their 40 overs with Adrian Lock scoring 55, Andy Gloyn 36, Ross Northover 31 and Mark Hallas 26. Richard Clements took 2-23.
There was an exciting match at Stoodleigh where the home side lost by three runs against Ashrbittle’s second string, who scored 209-7 in their 40 overs with Andy Hill hitting 63 nd Mike Hill 39. J Berniman took 3-26, P Raymond 2-50 and L Morphet 2-39.
Stoodleigh, bottom of the table, just fell short of victory despite knocks of 40 by R Lobb, 38 by A Mulins and 25 by Herniman. Mike Hill took 3-29, L Westcott 2-46 and C Cooper 2-27.
