HEMYOCK beat leaders Cutcombe by 58 runs in a top of the table clash in Division Three of the West Somerset Cricket League.

The Devon outfit, put into bat, were bowled out for 198 in 37-5 overs with Jalal Ahmet agonisingly run out four short of a century. Adam May (35) and Louis Allan (17) were the only other batters to make double figures. Jonathan Webber took 3-33. Elliott Binding 2-27, Reiss Harrison 2-39 and Harry Pursey 2-46.

Cutcombe never overcame a poor start, being all out for 140, although Binding scored 56 and Lennon Howe 22.

Although losing for the first time this season, Cutcombe stay top but Hemyock are now only 29 points behind their rivals with a game in hand.

Carhampton won their second match of the season, beating Minehead’s third string by 82 runs. Batting first after winning the toss, Carhampton scored 213 all out with Sam Price being their main run-getter with 92 while Ryan Cape hit 23. Sam Cobb took 3-29.

Minehead never looked like winning, with Darren Richards (26) being one of only three batters to get into double figures. Cape took 3-28.

In the only other match played in the third division, Stoodleigh won by six wickets against Ashbrittle’s 2nd XI in a high-scoring game which saw only nine wickets fall in scoring 500 runs.

Ashbrittle batted first and made 248-5 with Robin Williams hitting an unbeaten 88 while Leon Westcott scored 90.

Star of Stoodleigh’s 252-4 was Sam Bowker who steered his side to victory with a splendid knock of 115 not out while Anthony Vigus made 60.

It was Stoodleigh’s first success of the season and enabled them to move off the bottom - which is now occupied by Ashbrittle who have a game in hand over Stoodleigh.
