A STUNNING maiden century from 18-year-old Angus Marsh set Minehead II up for a comfortable 84-run victory at home to Barrington on Saturday.

With Minehead batting first, Marsh started watchfully against the new ball as fellow opener Dan Godfrey fell early for eight, quickly followed by no 3 Brad Martin, caught for a golden duck.

Robbie Garwood (17) and Jason Abbott (10) offered support as Marsh shifted through the gears as the innings wore on, and when Brandon Rawle (36) joined his colleague at the crease the pair looked to accelerate going into the last ten overs.

Marsh reached his century and had struck 15 fours by the time he was finally dismissed for an exquisite 118, giving Minehead a respectable 229 total to defend.

Early wickets for Gav Paviour (2-18) and Darren Sherring (3-25) and a run-out ensured the Barrington innings never gained momentum despite a gritty 60 not out from no 6 T Pitman.

Martin (2-29) accounted for two middle order batsmen before part-timer Garwood secured victory with the remaining wicket, giving Minehead maximum points for the third successive game.

Still sitting in second place in Division Three, they host mid-table Ilminster on Saturday looking to close the gap on leaders Wells, which currently stands at 17 points.
