CARHAMPTON’S winning streak in Division Three of the West Somerset Cricket League was ended on Saturday afternoon when they lost by four runs in a close match against high flying Hemyock at the Recreation Ground.

In a match reduced to 30 overs a side because of the bad weather after choosing to bat Hemyock posted 241 for six, which was based on a second wicket partnnership of 201 between Malcolm Steer and Pavisekan Nadesvakan.

Opener Steer made 71 off 91 balls with eight 4s and three 6s, while Nadesvakan blasted his way to 129 off just 50 deliveries with 13 fours and eight 6s.

Pick of the home bowlers were Tom Baker who ended with three for 66 and Adam Jeffries who claimed two for 66.

When Carhampton responded they were always up with the asking rate - thanks to opener Sam Price who hit 92 off 74 balls with nine 4s and four 6s and wicket-keeper James Snell with 46, the pair adding 103 for the second wicket.

Later in the order Ryan Cape with 46 and Tom Baker (13 not out) added 62 for the fifth wicket to keep the momentum going but in the end it wasn’t quite enough to see Carhampton home as they ended on 237 for five from their 30 overs, just four runs short of their target.

Nadesvakan rounded off a good afternoon by being the pick of the bowlers with three for 36 from his seven overs.

This result sees Hemyock now in second place in the table while Carhampton occupy sixth spot.

This coming weekend Carhampton will be looking to get back to winning ways when they travel away to play against next to the bottom of the table Stoodleigh while Hemyock are at home to Cannington who are fourth in the Division Three table.
