WITH Wiveliscombe having retained the Division One title the previous week, interest centred on whether Bridgetown could avoid relegation when the last games of this season were played on Saturday.
And they did just that with a 93-run win at home to Sampford Arundel, which lifted them to third from bottom of the table, 13 points clear of West Monkton, who are relegated along with bottom side Over Stowey.
Bridgetown put themselves in the driving seat with a healthy 217-7 total, led by P Matravers’ 91, then bowled Sampford out for 124.
Replacing the two relegated sides are Division Two champions Crowcombe and runners-up Ashbrittle II, while Timberscombe and Carhampton drop down to Division Three and will be replaced by Churchinford and Stoodleigh.
With Bridgwater Pointers leaving the league and Winsford and Wiveliscombe II relegated, three teams are promoted to Division Three – North Curry II, Crowcombe II and West Monkton II.
Going down from Division Four to Five are Buckland St Mary and Stoke St Mary II, and with Milverton having dropped out of the division mid-season, three teams are promoted from Division Five – East Huntspill, Stoke Saints and Kilve II.
