MINEHEAD & West Somerset Golf Club's Seniors’ only qualifying competition last week was a Stableford competition.

A large entry saw Fraser Lawrence win with 39 points with second place going to Dave Oatridge with 38 and Andy Giles in third position on 37.

The final of the C2 was also played on Friday between Phil Bowden and Steve Woodbury and after a hard fought contest it was Phil Bowden who won the Matchplay Trophy 4 & 3.

On Monday, Minehead Seniors’ played a 3.4.5 competition. Phil Bowden continued his good form and, together with Tony Connolly and Martin Hole, combined to form the winning team with a score of 82 points.

In second place were Doug Hayhoe, Sandy Lyons and Pete Taylor with 80 while third place went to John Burrow, Dave Ball and Kevin Garner with 76.

Minehead Seniors played their third match in five days when they travelled away to face Oake Manor. Home advantage counted as Oake Manor came out winners 4.5/1.5. The aggregate score over the two matches played home and away therefore finished in a 7/5 win to Minehead.

With a strong wind, Wednesday’s 321 competition proved challenging to say the least. The winners with an excellent 83 points were Graham Smith, Trevor Stephens and Tim Tennant. Three teams all scored 75 but on count back in second place were Steve Waterman, Dave Oatridge and Edward Frewin, with third position taken by Dave Ball, Pete Taylor and Martin Hole.

This week Minehead Seniors’ also played Weston-super-Mare away and in a very close match Weston came out the winners 3.5/2.5.
