BROMPTON Regis student John Freeman recorded his third consecutive class win this year at the Nicky Grist Stages forest rally in mid Wales.

John, with his father Duncan co-driving, beat the nearest competitors by over two minutes in his Nissan Micra Rally First one-litre car, and finished 111th overall out of 181 entries.

John’s spirited drive in the smallest car in the rally saw him beat many much faster 1.4, 1.6 and 2 litre cars and earned him the ‘Star of the Day’ trophy for the most impressive crew in a Rally First (unmodified) car.

With just three events remaining, John looks set to challenge the leaders in both the one-litre category and the Rally First category for the championship.

In the meantime, John, who has a conditional place at Loughborough University to study mechanical engineering, is waiting patiently for his A level results in August and the next round of the championship in September.
