Minehead Care Home is delighted to announce the launch of its exciting new initiative, the Eastleigh Community Championship – a year-long series of activities designed to boost creativity, companionship and connection amongst the home and the local Minehead community.
Bringing together residents, staff, families and the wider community, the Championship promises a calendar full of fun, friendly competition and shared experiences.
The events have begun with the important task of selecting a judging panel, who will be responsible for scoring entries and awarding winners their rosettes. Residents and employees are invited to apply to join the panel and the first judges have already been chosen. Resident John Hewson, 60, is planning to channel his passion for horse racing into being able to spot the competition winners, alongside Rob Carter, whose wife Judy lives at Minehead.

The first activity was the Easter Bonnet Competition. Residents, their families and friends have embraced the challenge, with entries received from six-year-old Billie Mae through to Bob Hewings, 61, showcasing creativity across the generations.
Louise Hepenstall, home manager at Minehead and the creative mastermind behind the Community Championship, said: “The standard of entries was incredibly high and there was a real buzz and energy around the home as everyone tapped into their competitive and creative side, with some beautiful results.
“Amongst stiff competition, Billie Mae was crowned the deserving winner with her wonderfully imaginative helter-skelter bonnet.”

Over the coming months, residents and the local community can look forward to a packed programme of events, starting with the Minehead Art Exhibition and Awards. The theme for the competition is ‘What Makes Me Happy’ and drawing and painting entries will be accepted between 27 April - 3 May 2026, with judging on 5 May 2026.
The art competition will be followed by Paws in the Park Dog Show, held in the home’s grounds, The Great Eastleigh Bake Off and Eastleigh’s Got Talent.
Louise added: “The Community Championship gives residents something to look forward to all year round. There is something for everyone, so if hat making isn’t your thing, why not try art or entering Eastleigh’s Got Talent? We can’t wait to see all the talent and creativity within the home and amongst the local community.”
