A PARTY of 51 Exmoor Community Youth Club members and volunteers ventured off the moor and went on safari in October.
They were able to go on the trip to Longleat free of change thanks to a generous donation bequeathed in the will of a relative of chairman of trustees, Robin Ashburner.
The children, aged from six to 16, took part in all that Longleat had to offer, including the boat trip where they fed the sea lions, the train ride, getting lost in the maze and visiting an African village.
The safari itself allowed the children to see animals close up, from lions to cheetahs, zebras to giraffes.
One of the younger members, Poppy Harris said: “It was the best day – ever!”
The youth club meets every Friday night and aims to provide the opportunity and space for the children of Exmoor to come together to meet and play with friends in a safe and welcoming environment.
Whatever they are into, there is something for everyone to enjoy and it boasts a regular attendance of 40-plus.
Being a non-profit making organisation, the group relies on volunteers, fundraising, grants and donations to cover running costs and subsidise the entry contribution to make it accessible for all.
