TWO young West Somerset dancers are representing England in the Dance World Cup, which is being held in Dublin, Ireland, from July 8 to 18.

Both attend Minehead’s Spotlight Dance Academy, now in its 20th anniversary year, which is run by professional dancer Laura Cook.

Nine-year-old Billy Cook qualified as a soloist this year after he placed second in the country with his lyrical routine.

Ms Cook said: “He has been rehearsing tirelessly to prepare for the world stage and this truly is a huge opportunity.

“We would like to wish him the very best of luck and also extend a heartfelt thank you to his sponsors INTEGY for their support in making this journey possible, as it is a significant and costly trip.”

Spotlight’s Mollie McGowan has been handpicked by Elite Acro Dance Associates (EADA) to take part in three of its group dances at the world cup.

Mollie has been an associate with EADA since 2024 and trains monthly at its Swindon branch, but since being selected for the world cup she has been attending monthly rehearsals in Dunstable, where it is based, and ‘showing exceptional dedication and talent’.

Ms Cook said: “Being selected as a team member is a huge achievement and we are so incredibly by proud of everything she has accomplished.

“We cannot wait to see her perform on the world stage.”

“What an incredible achievement for these two talented young dancers.

“We could not be prouder of everything you have worked so hard for.

“Go out there, enjoy every moment, and do what you do best.

“We are all behind you.”

Ms Cook said INTEGY, a specialist IT consultancy and Microsoft Partner, was passionate about creating social value by supporting local people and initiatives which promoted active lifestyles.

The dance world cup is being livestreamed for anybody interested to follow.
