A GROUP of 50 young people from the Spring Harvest event at Butlin’s boarded the steam train in Minehead to go to Watchet and help volunteers from local churches serve and bless the community.

Teams of teenagers from all over the UK, accompanied by youth workers from the Christian event, were welcomed by Christians Together in Watchet and Williton.

They got involved in washing cars, gardening and picking up litter as well as giving away chocolate eggs to passers-by on The Esplanade.

Other teams headed for the centre of Williton and, as well as handing out chocolate eggs to shoppers, they visited Croft House care home and sang to some of the residents.

Young people from Watchet Baptist Church joined the visitors in the community projects which were supervised by local volunteers from the various churches in Watchet and Williton.

Spring Harvest is an annual Christian conference for all ages that takes place at Butlin’s each Easter, and Christians Together in Watchet and Williton represents all the local churches including Watchet Baptist Church, Watchet and Williton Methodist Church, Watchet Salvation Army, St Peter’s Williton and St Decuman’s Watchet.

Local Church of England youth adviser Andy Levett, who co-ordinated the day, said: “All of the young people were fantastic and they certainly put a smile on the faces of the people who saw them in action.”
