THE freehold of the former stationmaster’s house next to Bishops Lydeard station has been bought by the West Somerset Railway PLC.

Now known as Station House, the fine period property is built of local stone and fits well with the surrounding station buildings.

The chance to purchase the property arose earlier in the year and, given its location, the WSR felt that such an opportunity should not be passed over.

The purchase has been fully funded by a long term loan from its bankers and will, for the immediate future, continue to be let on a short tenancy basis. Station House is surrounded by land and buildings already owned by the WSR and it will be integrated into the existing site in the coming months.
