THREE supporters of the rare breed Exmoor pony took on and conquered the Three Peaks – Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon – in aid of the Moorland Mousie Trust and Exmoor Pony Centre.

Maria Phillips, Linzi Green and Kestra French have all been involved in the work of the charity based at the Exmoor Pony Centre near Dulverton for many years.

Linzi, 34, who is manager of the centre, said: “We wanted to undertake a challenge that would take us out of our comfort zone and inspire people to sponsor us.”

All three women knew the challenge would require physical stamina and strength of character and they tackled it over three days.

Kestra, 28, who is the charity’s fundraiser, said: “The winter months are tough on the charity’s finances with ponies needing extra feed throughout the cold and wet season.”

As a conservation charity, with lots of Exmoor ponies grazing environmentally sensitive sites UK-wide, it was important to the team that they were able to follow the advice of the three peaks partnership and undertake a mountain each day.

So far, the total raised by the challenge is about £1800 but the team is keen to make it to the £2000 target.

Maria, 27, said: “While the weather was appalling and we got extremely wet, particularly on Snowdon, knowing people were donating to our cause spurred us on. We are grateful for everyone’s words of encouragement, sponsorship and practical help.”

Anyone wishing to support Linzi, Maria and Kestra’s effort can do so via JustGiving.com or by following the charity’s dedicated fundraising page on Facebook.
