AN estimated 4,500 people thronged the streets of Wiveliscombe last weekend when music, stalls and a wheelbarrow carnival were the order of the day.

The annual Wiveliscombe Street Market and Carnival on Sunday (September 4) proved more popular than ever, with West Road closed to traffic and 68 stalls lining the pavements and The Square.

Over 20 groups played music throughout the day in the Jubilee Gardens, with everything from Wiveliscombe Community Choir and Wivey Drummers to the brass band Big Noise and local band Outlaw.

Traders including local breweries and food providers from cheesemakers to bakers and hot food made sure there was plenty to eat and buy while all kinds of craftspeople as well as local charities and other stallholders provided a wide range of goods.

The carnival, with a theme of Out Of This World, had around 25 entries, and winning entries were a Dalek, Space, and The Clangers.
