A five-year-old girl who came away from Wivey Show with three winners’ trophies and a £150 voucher says she is on cloud nine after following in the footsteps of her big sister, and also her mother when she was a child.

Darling Marsh, of Wiveliscombe, was such a keen competitor at the show, held last Saturday (August 15) at the Wiveliscombe recreation ground, that she entered 10 categories and scored top points in all.

Her exhibits included jam tarts, rocky road, a tiny white poodle sculpted from a cauliflower that wowed the judges, and she came away with three trophy cups for the age four – seven category in Best Cookery Exhibit, Best Handicraft Exhibit and Most Points in Section J. It meant she was also the winner of a £150 voucher for a family day out to a venue of her choice.

The family are keen supporters of the Wivey Show. Also engraved on the Most Points trophy is the name of Darling’s older sister, Lovie, aged nine, and her mother Shelley, three times in a row winner in the 1990s when she was 10, 11 and 12.

Wivey Show chairperson Kirsty Boutflower said the organisers plan to encourage as many children as possible to take part in the show, and they had visited schools, scouts and more.

“We are doing this for future generations. The early shows, for example, helped pay for the swimming pool,” she said.

She said she herself loved entering show competitions where she lived as a child, and new sponsorship for the children’s section meant there were really generous prizes to be won.

Kirsty praised the generosity of the town’s businesses, particularly the main sponsors, and said she was really pleased with all the entries, especially given the weather.
