I was caught in the mayhem caused by the accident at Bilbrook on Thursday September 13.

We were all sent on a detour through Blue Anchor and Watchet, and as I passed the poor Blue Anchor Hotel which is crumbling into the sea, it occurred to me that this is the only route that buses and lorries could get past a closure of the A39, as neither could get through via Timberscombe or turn right at Wheddon Cross, and at any rate there is a weight/length limit in Dunster.

A few more years of crumbling cliff and the hotel will fall, then the road will be unsafe and unusable. Then where will the diversion be?

The authorities are very shortsighted in not providing protection for the cliff.
