SIR — I have been a councillor for Minehead Town Council for the past 14 months to try and help the town and people of Minehead, but resigned after the meeting on June 6 when the ferry project was thrown out and I do not want my name to be associated with the six councillors who have rejected this project.
How could they reject the proposal for a feasibility study that would not cost the council or the public money?
It would have been funded by seeking grants and the Vale of Glamorgan Council would have helped with the funding, therefore how can six councillors speak for the public and West Somerset?
The feasibility study would give everyone a chance to see if it would be viable for the public to have their views on this project.
Where is the democracy with Minehead Town Council rejecting this?
Minehead and the surrounding villages of West Somerset would all benefit through shopping, less congestion on the roads, and tourism, which is our main enterprise.
If the ferry project succeeds (given the opportunity) it will give great opportunities to Minehead and the villages.
Please, if you need any information on this project, contact John Clyde-Smith or Cllr Richard Lillis as they would welcome your views and comments.
Please support this fantastic project and opportunity so that we will not miss the boat.
