THE first section of the Steam Coast Trail was opened on Tuesday with a celebration on Dunster Beach.
And all were invited to turn up on anything with wheels and join the fun.
The first section of the Steam Coast Trail (SCT) to Blue Anchor is 1.5km long and just the beginning of a much larger project to build a network of multi-user paths around West Somerset.
But, although there is an existing right of way for pedestrians, the SCT team has yet to convince the Blue Anchor Chalet Owners Association to extend the trail through its land.
SCT team member Judy Mapledoram said: “There’s plenty more of the path to come, and we’ll revisit the ‘Blue Anchor gap’ in due time. We’re not the kind who give up easily!
“For now, many local families are already content to enjoy the safe and picturesque cycling from Dunster Beach.”
