AN Exmoor village has launched a major fundraising appeal to replace outdated sporting facilities.
The Moorland Hall Sports Club in Wheddon Cross was built more than 30 years ago and even then was a secondhand Army barracks building.
But its exposed position on Exmoor has taken its toll on the wooden structure and club organisers are planning a new-build replacement.
And they will be taking the first step on a campaign to raise at least £80,000 when they stage an auction of pledges on November 1.

Club secretary Maria Adams said the existing facility was used mainly for football and cricket and members of Exmoor Rangers and Cutcombe Cricket Club had reassembled the original building.
And the first fundraiser, the auction, has generated a huge response from past players in particular, one of whom has given the club the programme of the 1972 Seaward Cup final in which Exmoor Rangers faced the might of Victoria Park Rangers and won.
"Exmoor Rangers haven't reached the final since but there is always hope," said Mrs Adams.
She said it was hoped the new building would be completed in time for Exmoor Rangers' 50th anniversary in 2016.
Although organisers are counting on the project receiving substantial grant aid, Mrs Adams said local fundraising was essential to its success.
The auction will be held at Wheddon Cross Village Hall and will get underway at 7.30pm.
