150 years ago – November 20th 1869

At the first of the series of winter entertainment known as penny readings, in Minehead, the programme was spoiled by the incessant noise of striplings, doubtless egged on by men of larger growth who ought to have known better.

100 years ago – November 22nd 1919

Shareholders of the Minehead Recreation Ground Co Ltd were considering amalgamation with Minehead Bowling Green Co Ltd.

50 years ago – November 22nd 1969

In Bishops Lydeard, there was a large attendance at a special parish meeting called at the request of the local football club to discuss the possibility of a village playing field.

25 years ago – November 25th 1994

Champagne corks were popping in Watchet as dreams of a multi-million pound marina took a step closer to reality. Backing from the Rural Development Commission meant £1 million worth of Rural Challenge aid would be heading for the town.
