It is too easy to spend time taking lumps out of each other, especially in the pages of our local paper.

Readers may remember a letter of mine in autumn 2017 bemoaning the neglected state of our distinctive Somerset road sign posts.

Understandable, given the pressures on our county council, but undesirable nevertheless.

Fortunately a combination of voluntary effort, co-operation by landowners and a desire to find a way by the county council has produced some very creditable results, as illustrated by the post closest to my home, pictured in September 2017 and on Sunday.

What a transformation! Thank you. It makes me smile every day as I drive past.
