SIR — Having experienced life with so-called vulnerables as neighbours, I can relate to the concern of Watchet residents over the Anchor Street housing plan (Free Press June 29).
Our problem was solved with the guidance of one council employee and an elected councillor, who took our problem on board with the result that we now live in perfect harmony with those who surround us.
Sadly, that councillor is no longer with us, but at the meeting I was comparing the old with the new — what an abysmal performance, but still, elections have a habit of coming round.
The meeting, as you reported, was very well attended. For once Watchet stood up and was counted.
Like many, I left the meeting wondering if we were voices in the wilderness with nobody listening. Is it, as we suspect, all cut and dried? We shall see, time will tell.
In the meantime, fellow taxpayers, keep paying your dues because schemes like these and those that support them do not come cheap.
