SIR — Can someone please explain the responsible authorities' latest actions in regard to the unsightly work recently undertaken at the triangle at the junction of Lower Park and Parkhouse Road in Minehead? While it can never have been described as ornamental, at least it used to look tidy, with green planting, some ground cover and flowering shrubs. Unfortunately the authorities descended upon it one day and with an assortment of machinery tore out every living thing, leaving only one rather forlorn and neglected-looking small tree. Not satisfied with that destruction, shortly afterwards another crew turned up and covered the whole area with what can only be described as soil which appears to have been removed from a building site. We now have to live with this unsightly mess, which I know has upset a number of the local residents. Perhaps someone in the relevant department could pay it a visit and see if some simple improvements could be made. J Styles, Lower Park, Minehead.
