SIR — It is with enormous pleasure that I send my heartfelt congratulations to everyone at Bridgetown Cricket Club for becoming champions of the West Somerset Cricket League for the first time in the club's 90-year history. Having played for Bridgetown regularly and been involved in aspects of the running of club, at senior and junior levels, for 15 years from 1986, this honour for the club feels very personal and very welcome. A just reward for all those who have done so much over the years. Learning about this championship win has been a welcome distraction from the referendum in Scotland - an event which has enormous implications for the United Kingdom as a whole. I will be voting for the union to stay together, of course, and will firmly hope for that outcome. Once again, well done to all at Bridgetown - and be proud of what you have achieved at one of the most beautiful settings for a cricket ground in Britain or anywhere in the world.
