THE first victims of this year's flooding on the Somerset Levels to enjoy some free hospitality in West Somerset arrived for a two-day break in Porlock this week. Stuart and Shirley Jamieson, from Moorland, whose home was one of dozens badly damaged by water, took advantage of a scheme dreamed up by Porlock B&B owner John Stenner. Mr Stenner came up with the idea of giving flood victims a chance to get away from coping with the devastation wreaked by the wet weather. When the Exmoor Tourist Association got on board, the response from businesses soared and around 50 restaurants, accommodation providers and tourism outlets have now signed up to the scheme. But it was Rose Bank Guest House, run by Mr Stenner and his wife Elaine, which was the first to open its doors to the flood victims. Other vouchers for treats ranging from cream teas to travel on the West Somerset Railway have been distributed by the campaign group FLAG - Flood Levels Action Group. Mrs Jamieson said she and her husband wanted to thank everyone for their generosity. "We weren't planning a break but it was just what we both wanted," she said.
