AFTER emergency work in June, the Somerset West and Taunton Council work team returned to Dulverton Weir to carry out more significant repairs to prepare it for the winter.

Heavy equipment was used to reposition hefty boulders in the weir and fill in holes that had developed during the year. It is envisaged that these repairs will solve the problem of the leat running dry for the immediate future but the council team will return to carry out more work if necessary.

Philip Hull, trustee of Dulverton Weir & Leat Conservation Trust, said: “This is further evidence of Somerset West and Taunton Council’s positive commitment to preserving Dulverton’s heritage assets and we look forward to working with them in the future.

“This year has seen the development of a very constructive working relationship with the council.”
