SIR — I saw a reference on Sunday to politicians treating the public like children and it reminded me of the recent Exmoor National Park promotion "Have Your Say".

These sessions were being advertised at locations all over Exmoor, and expecting I would talk to someone about a local problem, I gave it a go.

On arrival I was greeted by one of the park's representatives who gave me a pin.

When asked where I lived, a bit bemused I said "next door". I was shown a board and told to stick my pin in the Exmoor Parish.

I was then given another pin and asked to stick that in my appropriate gender and age.

By this time I knew I was not going to get a serious adult conversation with anyone from the park but was taking part in a game.

People then moved around the exhibition using a tray of pins to stick in boards in order to indicate answers to the questions set by the park authority - the provision of an optional blindfold would have made this far more entertaining.

To be fair to the park authority, there was a pad of sticky top notes if you wanted to peel one off to make a comment (that hopefully stayed stuck to the board once you'd gone).

I just wonder how much public money was spent putting this travelling farce on the road.

It just goes to show how opinionated the Exmoor National Park Authority has become when dealing with the people who live and work here.
