SIR — Before Christmas, in your pages, we as the three main organisers of Watchet Kids Festival publicised that without extra support coming forward to help with the organising of the festival, it would not be able to go ahead in 2014.
We did receive some very kind offers of help, but not enough to be able to go forward with confidence, so we will not be running a kids festival this year.
We feel, as well as giving us three a well-needed break so that we can go ahead with our own personal interests, that the festival needs an overhaul, fresh ideas and fresh commitment from a younger team.
The ethos of the festival has been to provide an arts festival for children in our communities, and we are confident that there are other groups in our area who can do this, albeit in a slightly different format.

Check out latest planning applications across West Somerset and ExmoorContains Art has decided to assist us with this, by putting on an event on our 'usual' Saturday (which this year falls on Saturday July 26, the day before Watchet Carnival) and I am sure you will be getting some information from them soon as to what they propose.
We will be passing over the remaining balance of our funds to them and will make sure any materials or equipment that we hold will go to local children's groups who can use them.
We have all really enjoyed our involvement with Watchet Kids Festival and wish the best to the group or groups who can provide our local children with the varied and exciting arts experiences that they deserve in the future.
We would also like to thank all the many volunteers who have helped us so much over the years (you know who you are!) - the festival could not have worked as it did without your help and loyalty.
I am sure that any group running arts events in the future will need supportive volunteers, so please look out for further information about what is being planned.
Izzy Silvester, Judy Prior and Rachel Irven,
Watchet Kids Festival.
