WATCHET could have a new £1 million sports complex within three years, based at the town’s bowling club which would benefit the whole community, Watchet Town Council was told on Tuesday.

The council was asked to support a bowling club planning application which would transform the Culvercliffe Road site into a social and sports centre, including a new double indoor bowling rink, changing rooms new catering facilities, function room and gym.

Club chairman Mike Webber, supported by treasurer Marilyn Binding, outlined plans for a three-phase development.

“This will be a major asset not just for the bowling club but for the town,” Mr Webber said.

“The function room alone will probably cater for more people than any other community space in Watchet.”
