WATCHET gained top spot in Division Three with a seven wicket home victory against Crewkerne who were top.

Batting first Crewkerne got off to a good start but some tight bowling and fielding midway through their innings stopped the ever increasing flow of runs.

Jerry Dalton carried his bat and finished on 104 not out and received good support from Nick Keylock (30) and Neil Rice (28).

Good bowling by Andy Milton and Sandy Rawle restricted Crewkerne to under 200 on a good batting track, on which the visitors would have hoped to have scored 230 plus.

Watchet were made to struggle early in their innings, being on 27-2 after 12 overs.

This brought Clive Strong in to partner Richard Milton and together they put on 135 runs in just 20 overs, with a contradiction in batting styles, Milton playing some delightful ground shots and Strong blasting the ball to all parts of the ground.

Milton went for 57 but by then Watchet were in a commanding position with only 35 runs required from 13 overs but Strong only needed three of them as he hit the winning boundary to bring him his second league century of the season.

Crewkerne: 191-4 (J Dalton 104 no, N Keylock 30, N Rice 28, S Rawle 2-51).

Watchet: 193-3 (C Strong 102 no, R Milton 57, R Baker 2-54).

Points: Watchet 22 Crewkerne 7.
