OVER 40 visiting boats from the Bristol Channel Yachting Association joined with local boat owners dressed their craft to provide a colourful harbour backdrop for this year’s Watchet Summertime.

And the organisers of the week of music and events say it was the biggest and most successful so far.

“The weather really brought the crowds into Watchet and everyone seemed to have a great time,” said Summertime chairman Rachel Irven.

“This is our seventh year and our only problem is, how can we make it even better next year? Already people are asking for the 2018 dates so that they can book their holidays.”

Events early in the week included a performance by Watchet Community Choir and a companion dog show.

These were followed by the first Wellbeing Day, which gave visitors and locals ideas for a healthier lifestyle.

Watchet Methodist Church and St Decuman’s both hosted concerts, and there were also craft demos, a wide range of entertainment and a fleet of candle-floats slipping out of the harbour on the tide to the accompaniment of bagpipes.

On the last day, in glorious sunshine, The Esplanade was full of music from Jazzical Swing, Watchet Community Choir, Jessie and the Skunknecks and Groovus Maximus -and the week ended with a 15-minute firework display.
