COMMEMORATIVE events are being planned to mark the 10th anniversary of the closure of Watchet’s largest employer, Wansbrough Paper Mill.

The mill closed on December 22, 2015, with the loss of 176 jobs and the site has stood empty ever since.

Plans were unveiled for 400-plus houses and there was a suggestion the B3191 could be diverted across it, but no development actually went ahead.

Now, Onion Collective director Jess Pendergrast has approached Watchet councillors and the Market House Museum with a suggestion to hold a series of events to mark the anniversary.

Events could include a gathering of ex-employees with film clips, a formal exhibition in the Lynda Cotton Gallery in the New Year, and a talk by Paul Upton on the strike of 1915.
