WATCHET’S iconic lighthouse is to get a facelift after fears that it was falling into disrepair.

Since it was last renovated in 2012, when Princess Anne unveiled a plaque commemorating its 150th anniversary, the 22ft hexagonal structure has been attacked by rust and damaged by vandals.

Residents have complained that the cast-iron red lighthouse, the town’s most conspicuous landmark, is badly in need of repainting. Repairs are also needed on the door, roof and railings.
