SIR — Is it just me or does anyone else think the adverse camber on the Bilbrook bends is still a teeny-weeny bit iffy after the completion of the re-surfacing work on that particular stretch of road?

We now have a super-smooth road surface here, but one hates to think how much it all cost.

Was it done to correct the ‘lean-to-the-left’ bit or was it really to try and stop a few thoughtless speeding drivers from tossing themselves in their cars over the hedge and into the field with depressing regularity?

If 95 per cent of the commuters to and from Minehead can drive along the Bilbrook bends without mishap, why cannot the remaining five per cent manage to safely do the same? Silly question!

This year, ‘white van man’ shot past me along that stretch of road, where he ended up just two cars ahead. He was obviously over the double white lines, and could not have possibly seen anything coming towards him.

These idiots just don’t think until the day comes when it will all be sadly too late.

If an unsuspecting driver had pulled out of the Hobbs racing-stables entrance, in that instance, they wouldn’t have had a chance, with the van bombing towards them, way over the double white lines.

I’ve also seen a driver clambering out of his car on the same stretch of road - he fortunately hadn’t driven quite fast enough to fly off over the hedge and hit the field upside-down.

He stepped up the verge, for some reason stood on top of the very low and closely-clipped hedge there, and promptly disappeared! As he was unhurt I thought it the best place for him!

Let’s all hope this nice new road surface will save us from seeing any more accidents there.

With doubts about that camber or not, there really is no excuse, you too-fast five per cent, for flying off in to that fated field. Take care now.
