A TOM Putt apple tree was wassailed before being transferred to the community orchard above Watchet’s Splash Point on Tuesday (January 17).

A good crowd gathered at Pebbles Tavern where local ’maiden’ Tyler Osborne was carried around the tree three times by Luke Johnson and Joel Tait.

Tyler adorned the branches of the tree with toast dipped in mulled cider as she went.

Ben and Tanya Allen, of Pebbles Tavern, then poured cider onto the tree roots.

The ceremony was accompanied by the sounds of the wassailing song, to ensure a good harvest, and the crowd retired to the bar for a jolly night of shanty singing.
