THE Dulverton and District branch of the Royal British Legion has organised a thanksgiving and commemoration service to mark the 70th anniversary of Victory in Japan and the end of World War Two.

It will take place next Sunday (August 16) at 9.30am in the town’s All Saints Church.

While the war in Europe ended in early May 1945, it continued in the Far East until the Japanese finally surrendered on August 14, and the following day was celebrated as VJ Day.

Over next weekend there will be events and activities across the UK paying tribute to those who served in the Armed Forces, including those who served in the famous 14th Army in Burma, who helped secure victory. Prisoners of War and civilian internees from the conflict will also be recognised.

The service in Dulverton will be inter-denominational and all are welcome.
